SONA is the online participant pool management system. Post your study there if you wish to recruit participants from the General Psychology pool online. There are other recruitment options but SONA is the most common and it is typically approved by the IRB.
SONA es el Sistema en linea de manejo y recrutamiento de participantes. Este Sistema le permite a usted publicar su estudio en linea si usted desea reclutar participantes pertenecientes al grupo de estudiantes de Psicologia general. Existen otros medios para reclutar participantes pero SONA es el mas comun y es aprobado por IRB.
Researchers:
1. To get a researcher account on SONA you must email your PHRP certificate to experimentrak at uco.edu from your UCO email to get added. Your log in information will arrive in your email when you have been added.
2. Click here for the link to SONA.
3. It will bring you to this page.

4. Log in to SONA using your UCO email and the password from your email message.
5. Go to “Add New Study” under the “Studies” drop down menu to create your study information.

6. Choose the type of study that best fits your project (a standard, in-person, lab study is the default).

7. Enter in your study information according to the instructions below.


8. Your study information should look similar to this. Make your title informative but not flamboyant. Do not try to lure participants with a sexy title, e. g., “Watch Pornography All Day for Credit!”. Do NOT give away your hypothesis, e. g., “We are investigating whether watching pornography all day makes people happy”. Simply describe the task the participant will be DOING in what context. Studies less than 31 minutes long earn 1/2 credit, studies from 31 minutes long to 60 minutes long earn one credit, 2-hour studies earn 2 credits, etc. Click on Modify Restrictions, select age, and limit participant to those age 18 and above unless your IRB application is approved for minors too. Other important restrictions are vision and audition characteristics (can you adapt your study to blind or deaf participants? What about those who have difficulty using a mouse? If you need a particular participant characteristic, select it here.)
Investigadores:
1. Para obtener una cuenta de investigador en SONA, usted debe enviar un correo electronico con su certificado de PHRP a experimentrak@uco.edu desde su cuenta de correo de UCO. Sus credenciales para el acceso seran enviadas una vez su informacion haya sido recibida.

4. Ingrese a SONA usando su direccion de correo electronico de UCO y la contrasena suministrada en el correo electronico que usted recibio.
5. Una vez en el sitio web, ingrese a “agregar nuevo estudio” en la pestana correspondiente a “estudios” para crear la informacion de su estudio.

6. Elija el tipo de estudio que mejor describa su Proyecto.

7. Ingrese la informacion de su estudio de acuerdo con las instrucciones proporcionadas aqui


8. La informacion de su estudio debe lucir similar a esta. Haga su titulo informativo no extravagante. No intente atraer participantes con un titulo sexy como “vea pornografia todo el dia por credito!”. No exponga su hipotesis, por ejemplo “estamos investigando si ver pornografia todo el dia hace a la gente feliz”. Simplemente describa la tarea que el participante hara y en que contexto. Estudios cuya duracion sea menos de 30 minutos otorgan ½ credito, estudios de mas de 31 a 60 minutos otorgan 1 credito. Estudios de dos horas otorgaran 2 creditos, etc.
Administrators:
Semester SONA Maintenance (first week of class)
- Select “Add, modify, or delete courses” located under “Setup” at the bottom of the home page on SONA.
- Delete courses from the previous semester by clicking “Yes” located under “Delete?”
- All gen psych classes offered for the new semester can be located in the class schedule on the UCO website.
- Select “Psychology” located on the left hand side, the gen psych classes will be listed first.
- Scroll down to “New Courses” and add all new gen psych courses. Add the professors name, course name, CRN, and days the course is offered (Lack – Gen Psych – 22222 –MWF). Then add “5” under “Credits Required” and select the professor.
- After all old courses have been selected to delete and the new courses have been added, select “Save Changes.”
Adding people to SONA
- Select “Add, edit, or search for users” located under “User Management” at the bottom of the home page on SONA.
- Select which type of user you would like to add under “Add New User” on the right side of that page. (researcher, instructor, participant)
- Usually participants add themselves to SONA, but if for some odd reason you have to manually add someone, do the following:
- Add their first and last name as well as their UCO email. (it has to be their UCO email).
- Do not add a password, alternate email, or phone number. SONA will automatically generate a password for them. Select the course they’re in, leave “Credits Earned” as “0” unless instructed otherwise by their professor.
- Leave a comment if you must, possibly regarding why you had to add them manually. Do not limit their research unless instructed otherwise. Leave them as active, and select “yes” to emailing them their login information.
- Once all the information is entered correctly, click “Save Changes.”
